Added Resistance & Drift Force Analysis in Regular and Irregular Waves
The sea wave causes excess resistance which is out of scope of calm water resistance. The total wave force in horizontal plane is divided into “Added Resistance” and “Drift Force”. In this study, based on Gerritsma and Beuckelman[3] hypothesis a computer program has been developed for calculation of added resistance and drift force at various ship speeds and various head...
متن کاملMass Transport by Second Mode Internal Solitary Waves
The overall scientific objective of the proposed effort is to improve our understanding of the propagation and mass transport of internal solitary waves (ISW), particularly mode-2 ISW, and their significance for coastal ocean processes. In recent years numerous observations of mode-2 ISW have been reported so that it appears that such waveforms may be more prevalent than previously thought. Lar...
متن کاملInvestigating the Amount of Forces Caused by Solitary Waves on Coastal Walls Using OpenFOAM Software
Coastal walls (dyke) are one of the methods of protecting the coast against coastal erosion and destructive forces of waves. The purpose of this study is to simulate the wave collision with the coastal dyke and compare the results with the laboratory model. Open FOAM open source software and K-ω SST turbulence model were used to simulate the amount of wave consumed by the coastal dyke. Taking i...
متن کاملShallow Water Waves and Solitary Waves
Glossary Deep water A surface wave is said to be in deep water if its wavelength is much shorter than the local water depth. Internal wave A internal wave travels within the interior of a fluid. The maximum velocity and maximum amplitude occur within the fluid or at an internal boundary (interface). Internal waves depend on the density-stratification of the fluid. Shallow water A surface wave i...
متن کاملSolitary Waves of Depression
It is shown that the regularized long-wave equation admits a family of solitary waves of depression. Some of these solitary waves are stable while others are unstable. The proof of stability and instability is based on the general theory of Grillakis, Shatah and Strauss. The results are illustrated by numerical simulation using a spectral discretization.
